Description
Ancient carved stone idol or "Axe God" from a grey stone. Such idols were originally made from old celts or axes and evolved into this stylized anthropomorphic form over many centuries. The idol measures 8 inches tall x 3.5 inches wide , the wood frame which is in very poor condition measures 10 x 8 inches. Mezcala culture, Guerrero State, western Mexico. Provenance: Part of the permanent display at the Metamora Museum of Oddities, Metamora , Indiana.
