Condition
Condition: THE FIRST The overall condition is very good structurally with a couple of darkened spots on the front and one on the back. THE SECOND The overall condition is good structurally with some spots throughout the satin leaves, mostly along the ribs, and there is a split starting to form along the far left leave. THE THIRD The overall condition is good though the paper is starting to crack and split along the ribs and the top edge of the leaves. The gold lettering on the right guard has darkened in a few letters. The back of the paper is darkened on the left and along the folds. THE FOURTH The overall condition is good structurally though the paint has darkened on the wood ribs near the base of the fabric leaves. Adhesive has yellow on the far left rib and far right ribs and is visible on the fabric. The white wood paint has slightly yellowed due to age and there is a dark scrape on the back guard. THE FIFTH The overall condition is very good with some light wear around the rivet. The box has split on one end, the outer wrapping is worn on each corner, and the gold printed border is fading in several spots along the lid. THE SIXTH The overall condition is good though the entirety of the front and back of the fan has soiling with some chipping of the painted edges and the tenth stick from right guard has a piece of the finish missing. THE SEVENTH The overall condition is good though the fan has yellowed throughout and the adhesive has darkened as evidenced on the ribbon. There is on leaf and one guard detached from the ribbon on the right side. THE EIGHTH The overall condition is good with some darkening and spotting on the paper. The print is still very clear to see and read with little to no visible issues. The ribs and guards are all intact with the "Registered June 8th, 1875" stamp slightly worn. The box lid has the top left corner missing, the right top corner split, and several spots throughout. THE NINTH The overall condition is good though the center embellishment has lost some sequins and red threads, and a few of the bristles are missing along the right side. THE TENTH The overall condition is good though there is some graying around the outer edge of the pink feathers and the handle has slightly yellowed. THE ELEVENTH The overall condition is good structurally though some of the dye has faded to a degree on one side and the black paint has worn away along the bottom ridging. THE TWELFTH The overall condition is fair as several leaves have separated on the right side of the fan, there are missing sequins along with a missing piece of one of the leaves, and the sticks have started to yellow with age. THE THIRTEENTH The overall condition is poor as the paper is very brittle and darkened with adhesive yellowing on the rear top edges; there are two separated stick, several splits in the remaining leaves, and missing sequins. THE FOURTEENTH The overall condition is very good with light yellowed spots on the lower and upper left corners. There is a handwritten name in the lower right corner. THE FIFTEENTH The overall condition is good structurally though the handkerchief is moderately-heavily soiled throughout the entire piece with darker spots on the lower corners, and just beside the eagle print at the top center. THE SIXTEENTH The overall condition is very good structurally though there is a darkened line of soiling running through the center length of the handkerchief and spots in the corner by "Old Mother Hubbard". Everything is sold 'As Is’. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. All other condition issues are stated above. To request additional working condition photos, please email couturecr@hindmanauctions.com with the lot number. Condition is a matter of opinion of the evaluator and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Clients must review and agree to the Conditions of Sale before participating in an auction.
