Taino. Unique turtle Cemi/stamp with complex iconographic incising covering shell. In Taino creation myth the turtle was the birth mother for their culture. A "Spirit or ghost" face can be seen in the top half of shell. Base is 6 facing triangulate swirls. The low profile of the shell indicates it represents a water turtle rather than a land turtle like a box turtle or gopher tortoise. Made of jasper.
