Description
Titled in the print lower right: "The Home of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello, VA . U.S.A." Shows a view of Monticello as it was in the late 1897, the year William Jennings Bryan proposed that the federal government buy the privately owned house. The owner however declared that he would not sell it at any price. It is pictured here in what looks like early summer, an upstairs window canted open to catch the breeze, a ladder propped up against a chimney. The artist added a remarque of Thomas Jefferson in the lower left margin. Signed and dated 1897 in the print lower left, however, the artist's name is illegible. Not examined out of frame. Visible image approx: 13 1/4" x 7 1/2" Frame approx: 18 3/4" x 13"
