Image depicts a sea of gyrating human figures within a giant heart shape; each figure illuminated with its own, individual heart. Inscription at bottom reads "K. Haring". Keith Allen Haring (1958-1990) was an American artist whose pop art and graffiti-like work grew out of the New York City street culture of the 1980s. Haring's art rose to popularity from his spontaneous drawings in the subways of New York - chalk outlines of figures, dogs, and other stylized images appearing on advertising or blank backgrounds. After public recognition, Haring created larger scale pieces such as murals. His imagery has "become a widely recognized visual language". Keith Haring's later work often addressed political and societal themes through his own iconography, with a special focus on homosexuality and the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s.
