Captain Kangaroo RFK Funeral Lot: Telegram, Program & Thank You Note

A group of Robert F. Kennedy's funerary materials that were sent to Captain Kangaroo, Bob Keeshan. The group includes the following:

Western Union telegram from the Kennedy Family. 1p, measuring 8" x 10", New York, dated June 7, 1968. Invites Keeshan to Robert Kennedy's funeral mass. Reads in part: "...This telegram will admit only the person or persons to whom it is addressed and must be retained and presented for identification…"

Program from the RFK's Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral. 8pp, measuring 5.5" x 8.5", New York, no date [June 8, 1868].

Ethel Kennedy Printed Thank You Note. 1p on mourning stationery, measuring 5.25" x 3.75", no place, no date. Reads in part, "We are consoled to know that you share our sorrow and that the love he gave is returned in full measure…" along with a quote from Matthew 5:3.

Three Memorial Cards. 2pp front and back, measuring 3.5" x 4.75", no place, no date [circa June 1868]. With a photo of Robert Kennedy on the front and a quote from one of his speeches on verso. The thank-you note and memorial cards were sent in a retained envelope addressed to Bob Keeshan at his New York residence. Creasing to telegram and staining to program. Very good overall. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assassinologist. With a Certificate of Authenticity from Nate Sanders.

Robert Keeshan (1927-2004) was a TV producer and actor, best known for the creation and portrayal of the titular character on the children's program Captain Kangaroo. He performed for the children of the Washington Diplomatic Corps and knew both Ethel and Bobby Kennedy from at least 1965 onward. Keeshan later received the Frances Holleman Breathitt Award for Excellent from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1987.
