**First Time At Auction**
North America, Mexico, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden snake head that is painted with a dark gray ground and accentuated with green, red, black, white, and yellow details. The hollow serpentine head has a wide mortise behind the zigzagging collar that is meant to affix it to a pole or a laterally protruding wall tenon. The animal has almond-shaped eyes beneath thick brows as well as a pair of white fangs painted in front of the snout. Size: 9.4" L x 8.9" W (23.9 cm x 22.6 cm)

Minor abrasions and nicks to snout, top of head, and collar, with light fading to pigmentation, and a few stable hairline fissures, otherwise intact and very good. Great remains of original pigment throughout.
