Artist: Guy Crittington Maccoy (b. 1904-1981)
Medium: Serigraph
Guy Maccoy is known as " The Father of The Serigraph". If you don't know about him- google him.
This Serigraph is iconic mid century Guy Maccoy- exactly depicts what he is known for and is a beautiful example of the master. Title: Lovers Signed: Yes Year: Mid Century Dimension: 22 1/2 x 28 1/2" Great colors.
Guy won various scholarships, including "The Tiffany Art Foundation Scholarship", "Art Students League Scholarship".
HE STUDIED ALONGSIDE JACKSON POLLACK, RICO LEBRUN to name a couple.
Guy held the first one man show of the newly named "Serigraphs" at the Contemporary Art Gallery in 1938. He continued to refine his Serigraph process. Guy moved to California and taught alongside Howard Warshaw. He taught at Otis prior after graduating from Columbia University.
Guy produced over 100 paintings and about 80 limited editions of his own works. Keep in mind, all of his serigraphs were hand stenciled on their screens using a method of color separation controlled one hundred percent by the minds eye and knowledge of the Guy Maccoy process.
The number of color runs to produce many of the fine work of art averaged fifty to eighty plus color runs with many prints having over one hundred color runs.
The effect of color layering and intimate knowledge of color is what made Guy's work so beautiful, unique, collectible and valuable.
