Description
Gerda Iro Gerdago (1906-2004). Silver enamel bronze Sculpture. Measures 14 1/4 "in H x 7 1/2" in W including the onyx base. The native Gerda Gottstein was artistically trained in Berlin in 1927 and Paris in 1928/29 and worked as an assistant to the architect Oskar Strnad. In the period of 1925 and 1930 Gottstein designed numerous statuettes in the style of Art Deco. Their figures in predominantly dramatic postures wear futuristic costumes with often eccentric headgear and are usually decorated with colorful, cold-painted enamel and richly gilded. The Viennese foundry Artur Rubinstein made the Gerdago-signed objects after Gottstein's drawings and designs.
