Description
Antique likely 19th Century woven split wood basket, with remarkable decorations using the potato stamp method common to many Native American tribes of the Northeast US. The three different stamps seem to depict and ear of corn, as well as beans and squash—or the famous "three sisters" of Indigenous agriculture—making this basket specimen a unique artifact. Includes pine needle cushioning in bottom as well as handmade broom and bundle of reed cordage. Origin unknown, but this ensemble just screams rustic authenticity.
The dimensions are 15 in x 18 in x 18 in. Condition is fair, with lots of breaks and wear—suggesting this piece may have been used to carry the very crops decoratively stamped upon it. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
