YORUBA, NIGERIA, AFRICAN BEADED AND EMBROIDERED CEREMONIAL HEADDRESS H 20.5", DIA 13" Blue, white, green, red and yellow bead work sewn onto fabric. Adorned with figures of birds. Worn most often by royalty, the birds to denote their ability to cross into the spirit realms.Provenance: Estate of Jack Faxon, Birmingham, MI. Michigan Senator and creator of the Michigan Council for the Arts.
Condition
Significant amount of wear and short tears along the rim of the headdress. Surface soiling, signs of wear consistent with age.
