Description
This is a lovely double-page map of the northern Dutch province of Groningen, and parts of Germany. It is based on the work of B. Wicheringe. The map roughly centers on the fortified city of Gron(n)ingen and extends east to Emden and Norden in today's Germany. In the Dollert estuary on the right there is a note about the 1277 flooding of the villages. Four ships are shown at sea. Much detail is offered as to cities and towns, rivers, lakes, dikes, roads, forests, etc. An impressive title cartouche is top right with classical warrior and lady justice, key in right center, and an impressive figured scale cartouche bottom left celebrating agriculture with a horse and cow, plus a compass rose. German text on verso.
