Description

Europe, 14th-15th century. Gilt bronze, 1 1/4" height of shield shape with symmetrical foliate decoration The top pierced with a hole for lacing to the garment. These evidently identified the noble leader under which the warrior fought, essentially uniting the group as a militia. That is opposed to the large number of warriors who were mercenaries. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. On a polished leather neck cord for modern wear.
