Dimensions: 2-1/4" H x 11" Diam.
Antique, Chinese Ming Dynasty Wanli Emperor Reign, Flower tray. Finely potted in wide shallow vessel form, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in iron red underglaze base color which contrast against the yellow green fine color. The central medallion delicately fine depicted big flowers blooms interspersed with fresh green foliage and vines, enclosed with double fine yellow green rings lines. The outer central medallion rim decorated with abundant ripe oranges fruits interspersed with foliage. Oranges are grown in southern China and were popular presents for children. The character ju is made up of the radical mu wood and ji lucky. Also ju sounds close to zhu to wish so it symbolizes a wish for good fortune. Persimmons and tangerines together give a wish for success in all things. Lots of oranges and tangerines are consumed at the New Year festival. A tribute of oranges used to be sent from Fujian province to Beijing in time for the Spring festivities. Orange peel is considered an effective medicine. The exterior short foot rim adorned with repeating scrolling ruyi and flowers blooms. The color is balanced, elegant and exquisite. The porcelain displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. Mark on under base, a six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within double fine rings, Wanli Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
