ALEKSANDR PETROVICH APSIT (1880-1944) [REVENGE OF THE KINGS / WARSAW.] 1918.
41x27 inches, 106x70 cm.
Condition B: repaired tears at edges and into image; replaced losses at edges; creases along vertical and horizontal folds. Mounted on Japan.
Latvia-born Apsit moved to Saint Petersburg in 1894 and worked for various Russian magazines. When the First World War broke out, he was employed by the government to design war posters; later, after the Bolshevik Revolution, Apsit was commissioned by the State Publishing House to design revolutionary posters. Many of his posters produced during the Russian Civil War were aimed at persuading young men to join the Red Army. Post-World War I, he returned to Latvia as a book illustrator, also designing advertising posters, greeting cards, and candy wrappers.
