This lot consists of an ink illustration on paper, done in the minimalist style of Saul Steinberg (Romanian, 1914-1999). Image depicts a man seated at a drawing table, his illustrations appearing to rise straight off of the table, swirling through the air around him. Handwritten inscription at lower right corner. Unframed piece measures approximately 8.25" x 7".

Saul Steinberg (Romanian, 1914-1999) described himself as a "writer who draws". His work is characterized by its playful, childlike, doodle qualities. At times, Steinberg's work was reminiscent of Dada. With the rise of anti-Semitic policies in Europe, Steinberg fled and would eventually find his way to New York. It was here that he would live and work and remain for the rest of his life.
