Description
Five Tournai and Chantilly Moulded Plates and Soup Plates. Comprising a pair of Tournai plates moulded and scalloped rim soup plates painted with three gilt scroll and foliate cartouches containing flowers en bleu camaeÔu centering fanciful birds perched on fences; a pair of Tournai dessert plates with ozier- and scallop-moulded rims, painted and printed in blue with Chinoiserie flowers; and a soft-paste porcelain shallow rim soup plate by Chantilly, painted with blue rim scattered stylized flowers in imitation of Meissen. Crossed swords and dot marks to first, with inicised 7 toward footrim; no marks to the second pair of plates; and blue horn mark, incised W to footrim, to last example. Tournai, Belgium; and Chantilly, France. Circa 1750-1800. {All of the plates are 9" to 9 1/4" Diameter}. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Arthur Thomson, San Francisco, CA. Parallels: See an example of the last plate at The British Museum, 1924,0211.1.CR. {Condition: Minor gilding wear to the first pair; with additional dots of frit to rim and faces. Minor cut marks and wear to second pair. 3 1/4" Long section of the rim of last plate has been broken off and professionally restored.}.
