Mason's Ironstone Japan-Style Dinner Service

ca. 1830-1848, comprising fifteen dinner plates, dia. 10-1/2", ten soup plates, dia. 10-1/2", three luncheon plates, dia. 9", seven graduated platters, w. 10" to 22", d. 7-1/2" to 16", a covered soup tureen, h. 9", w. 13-1/2", d. 10-3/4", a pair of covered round vegetable dishes, h. 6", w. 8", d. 6-1/4", a round handled platter, dia. 14", and an open handled bowl on a pedestal, h. 6", w. 12-1/2", d. 10".
Condition
All with typical scattered glaze anomalies and some degree of rubbing and surface wear. 13" PLATTER: the upper quarter with an old staple-repaired break across the rim from side to side and within the outer perimeter of the recessed center with an area of crazing along the front edge (approx. 8"), the reverse glaze with scattered "dirt". There is also an old "snaking" hairline within the front recessed center. 10-1/2" PLATTER: with an old flake chip at one end. LARGE CIRCULAR FOOTED TUREEN: the interior with an old firing anomaly at one side (approx. 3") which does not go through. The cover with stapled repairs stabilizing an area of old breaks/cracks. The finial with a repaired break and minor adjacent sliver loss. CIRCULAR COVERED VEGETABLE DISH (1st example): cover with an area around the rim with "lemon peel" and slight "tanning" to the raised swirls. the finial with a tiny loss to the tip. CIRCULAR COVERED VEGETABLE DISH (2nd example): the cover with scattered craquelure, the old finial break with a lead-like metal repair which becomes a "staple" on the underneath side. LUNCHEON PLATES: one with two shallow flake chips at the rim edge and one to the foot, another with a very small flake chip to the rim edge, the third with a repaired chip to the foot (approx. 1-1/2") along with a faint spider hairline at the center underneath. CIRCULAR HANDLED PLATTER: w. 13-1/2", minor rubbing to the gilt on the side handles, a negligible old ding to the foot, a faint 1" scratch on the rim and a glaze hairline underneath one handle. OPEN BOWL ON PEDESTAL: negligible area of craquelure around the interior perimeter of the foot. DINNER PLATES: Four with a shallow/small flake chip at the rim edge, one of these with a 3/4" loss to the foot and scattered glaze "dirt" underneath the rim. Two with a small flake chip to the foot and areas of slight discoloration to the rim edge with an area of craquelure at one recessed center. One with a shallow flake chip under the rim edge. One with an old oval hairline to the foot. SOUPS: One with 1-1/2" glaze hairline from the rim edge. One with a shallow flake chip to the rim edge. All of the above is consistent with age and use over time.
