Pair of Napoleon III Giltwood Fauteuils

mid-19th century, in the Louis XV style, each with an elaborate foliate crest above the rounded and padded back, joined by scrolling arms to the padded seat, raised on molded cabriole legs headed by floral carving and ending in scrolled toes, now upholstered in Aubusson floral fabric.

Rubbing and losses to the gilt, normal shrinkage, mars and wear. All legs are tight. Backs tight. One arm exhibits some movement at its joints. The upholstery is quite tight and in very good condition. It appears to retain horse hair under-upholstery. The silk upholstery on the verso of one chair back is torn. It is absent on the other chair back leaving the underlying burlap under-upholstery exposed.
