Description

Extremely fine vintage Modoc basket. The Modoc are a Native American tribe that lived in North Eastern California and into Southern Oregon.
This basket is very tightly woven, with two bands of checkerboard design (possibly representing rattlesnake bands) plus one dark band, one light brown band, and a fine line of dark red twine near the rim. There is an additional checkboard band on the bottom. The bottom is concave, and the rim is tightly wrapped.
Measures about 7 1/4" diameter by 4 1/4" high. Has an old tag that reads "Modoc" with a price of $75.
