John MacGilchrist was a Scottish-born architect and printmaker, active in the United States. He is best known for his World War I aviation scenes. MacGilchrist came to the United States in 1913 to complete his architectural degree at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh. During the Great War, he served as a Balloon Observer for the British Royal Air Corp, documenting the war in over 200 hours of flight. Afterward, he returned the US, where he continued to work as both artist and architect in Philadelphia. He participated in the 1932 Summer Olympics art competition in Los Angeles, CA, representing the United States. MacGilchrist fell into obscurity at some point during the Great Depression.

Condition: Generally good condition, repaired tear in the lower margin and some staining. Wide margins.
