Two (2) Kentucky documents signed by Governors Isaac Shelby and John Breathitt. 1st item: Isaac Shelby (1750-1826) signed land grant, dated 1794, granting James Akins 640 acres on Goose Creek in "the district set aside for officers". Matted together with an illustration (possibly from Harper's Weekly) of Shelby's home, "Traveller's Rest," and portrait of Shelby, Daniel Boone, and General James Wilkinson. Overall (including mat) - 20" H x 31 1/2" W. Note: Shelby was the first and fifth governor of Kentucky, serving from 1792 to 1796 and again from 1812-1816. 2nd item: John Breathitt (b. 1786- d. 1834, KY Governor 1832-1834) signed land assignation document to Jesse W. (?) Alexander, size and county unstated, dated 1832. Sealed in plastic sleeve. 7 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W. Provenance: The estate of Dr. Benjamin H. Caldwell, Nashville, Tennessee. Shelby signed land grant - faded, with tears at folds affecting the C of the governor's signature, losses up to 1 1/2" below signature, toning and creases, especially at sides. Print - Good condition with even toning. Breathitt land document- losses at each lower corner, up to 3 1/2" x 3 1/4", affecting seal, separations at folds including one affecting Breathitt's autograph, toning and foxing.
