Published by George Dearborn, printed by Scatcherd and Adams, New York. 32mo, 202 pages including Table of Contents, 44 pages of Explanation of Plates with eleven (11) engraved plates, and 21 pages of marching sheet music, hardbound with brown blind-stamped cloth over boards, gilt lettering to spine. 5 7/8" H x 3 5/8" W x 1 1/8" D. 2nd item: James K. Marshall signed, Narrative of The Expedition of an American Squadron to The China Seas and Japan, Performed in the Years 1852, 1853, and 1854, Under the Command of Commodore M.C. Perry, United States Navy by Francis L. Hawks, 1856. Published by Order of the Congress of the United States, printed by Beverly Tucker, Senate Printer, Washington, D.C. Octavo, 537 pages with lithographic and wood cut illustrations, hardbound in brown blind-stamped cloth over boards, spine is not present. 11 1/4" H x 9 3/4" W x 2 3/8" D. Provenance: The Estate of Charles Boyd Coleman, Jr., Chattanooga, TN, by descent from the subjects, Lewis Minor Coleman and his wife, Mary Ambler Marshall Coleman (daughter of James K. Marshall and granddaughter of U.S. Chief Justice John Marshall (1755-1835); their son, Lewis M. Coleman Jr. was related to the family of U.S. War Secretary Major General Henry Dearborn (1751-1829) by his marriage to Julia Wingate Boyd, daughter of Annette Maria Dearborn Boyd. Annette was the daughter of Greenleaf Dearborn (1786-1846) and his wife Pamela August Gilman (1802-1880) and was the great-granddaughter of Gen. Dearborn on her mother's side). Condition
1st item: Covers in worn condition, corners bumped. Pages with foxing spots/acid burn, toning, tears, to be expected from age. Plates 10-12 are not present. Tissue paper guards appear to be missing. Plate 6 appears to have been bound incorrectly. 2nd item: Covers in worn condition, corners bumped, spine is not present. Pages with foxing spots/acid burn, toning, tears, to be expected from age.
