Description
Pleasant Hill, Kentucky Shaker blanket chest, poplar with red wash. Comprised of a rectangular lid with breadboard ends and cleated front edge, wide interior till, and a molded bracket foot base. 19" H x 34 1/4" W x 16" D. Circa 1830. Note: A blanket chest with similar cleated top is featured in the museum catalog "A Sense of Place: Kentucky Shaker Furniture and Regional Influence" for the Shaker Museum at South Union, October 5 through December 24, 1996, on page 26. Provenance: Descended through the family of Catherine Colt Yandell, a descendant of Samuel Colt, and her husband Daniel Yandell, Danville, Kentucky.
Condition
General wear, scratching and paint loss, mostly to the top. All feet facings with horizontal splits, one rear foot facing with patch, glue block to one rear foot replaced; patch to edge of bottom board near right rear foot.
