Description

Grouping of Civil War era related items including buckles, horse bit, breastplate, and bullets. 1st item: Civil War horse bit, similar to M1864 bit with the S curve, two affixed brass "US" roundels. Condition: pitting, losses. 8 1/2" length. 2nd item: U.S. "puppy paw" belt buckle, both sides intact, affixed label verso states "from Shiloh, TN". Condition: oxidized surface with denting to perimeter. 3 1/4" length. 3rd item: Brass rectangular buckle and hasp depicting the American eagle, Pluribus Unum banner, and stars. Overall very good condition with oxidation to brass. 3 1/2" length. 19th century. 4th item: US breastplate with Federal eagle, lead backing and hooks. Affixed label "Luka MS". Oxidation, overall very good condition. 2 1/2" diameter. 5th item: Civil War commission of Second Lieutenant William J. Broatch by Connecticut Governor William A. Buckingham, June 15, 1864. Also included an engraving of Buckingham. Condition: framed commission in excellent condition with light fading of last two letters of Buckingham's signature, engraving with hole in upper right corner. 6th item: grouping of Civil War era mini balls (11) and 3 Civil War era bullet catridges. Contained in a 19th century nailed box. Provenance: Gatlinburg, TN collection.
