MIAMI – On Sept. 30, Pérez Art Museum Miami will debut “S-281913,” a major new work by American artist Sarah Oppenheimer, which will remain on view until April 30, 2017. Bridging art, architecture and engineering, Oppenheimer’s intensive spatial modifications generate astonishing effects that both scramble and clarify our understanding of the buildings we inhabit, providing not only new ways of looking, but a new set of philosophical considerations with which to approach the built environment.

Beyond blades, Viking metalsmiths fashioned jewelry

The perception surrounding Vikings varies. From fierce raiders who invaded lands far and wide, to the comical and clumsy Hagar the Horrible comic strip character, created by Dik Browne in 1973. That spectrum is nearly as wide as the ground the Norsemen covered during migration from Scandinavia. Their departure reportedly began as early as the eighth century.

DALLAS (AP) – A guitar owned by British singer-songwriter Eric Clapton has sold at auction for $45,000 and the proceeds will be used to pay the medical bills of a well-known Texas musician whose wife recently died of leukemia.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Seven Mayan artifacts looted decades ago from Guatemala are returning to the land of their creation after a representative for an antiquities collector grew suspicious of their origin and contacted the FBI.
