LONDON – British Baroque: Power and Illusion is the first ever exhibition to focus on baroque culture in Britain. From the Restoration of Charles II in 1660 to the death of Queen Anne in 1714, Tate Britain’s exhibition opening February 4, 2020, explores the rich connections between art and power in this often-overlooked era. The show includes many new discoveries and artworks displayed in public for the first time, many on loan from the stately homes for which they were originally made.

A painting by Paul Henry, titled Lough Derg, sold for $45,750 at an auction event held Dec. 11-17 by Alderfer Auction in Hatfield, Pa. Also, a 14K gold solitaire ring with a 3.19-carat brilliant-cut diamond brought $25,740; an oil on board painting by Jack Butler Yeats, titled Sea and Lake, topped out at $49,725; a Jean Halter winterscape work went for $26,325; and a Joseph Greenberg gilt with undertone and gesso scrolled frame mirror fetched $3,100.
