NEW YORK – On Wednesday, February 15, starting at 11 am Eastern time, Jasper52 will present a sale titled Furniture, Home Decor, and More!, a 250-lot auction of furnishings, fittings and decorative arts that will enliven and enrich any interior. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Among the lots on offer is a Paul McCobb Mid-century Modern dresser with matching mirror; a 19th-century studio camera on its original adjustable stand; an Eileen Gray E1027 chrome side table; a swan dining table, aka a table with a glass top held aloft on the necks of four swan figures; a pair of Giancarlo Piretti chairs for Castelli; a circa-1960s tiger oak pedestal game table by Knoxville Tables; a Nichols & Stone Co. rocking chair; and a wicker pod hanging chair, described as “extremely sturdy and comfortable.”
Other prizes include a Harry Bertoia chair, designed for children; a Mardi Gras mask in a Lucite box; a 1970s set of six Limoges bouillon bowls with saucers; a copper and brass Champagne bucket, paired with a fish-form oyster dish; an oversize pair of metal bookends that depict standing figures of golfers; a circa-1970s metal toy typewriter; long, wooden salt and pepper shakers; a pair of copper tea kettles; a Fitz and Floyd ceramic catchall with a lid in the shape of a duck wearing a shawl; and a mid-century Danish design-style teak cheese server with a plastic dome.
All three top lots in the February 15 auction date to the 1970s. First among them is an Empire glass chandelier with brass floral swag decoration. It measures 35in wide by 35in deep by 70in long, making it perfect to ornament a grand entryway or high-ceilinged showplace interior. Its estimate is $8,000-$10,000.
Considerably more casual but just as delightful is a five-piece bamboo dining set consisting of four chairs upholstered in green fabric and a table with a circular top on a pedestal base. It has an estimate of $1,500-$2,000.
Completing the highlights is a set of 12 wooden chairs shaped to resemble human hands. Each stands 33in high and has a seat height of 17in and each was, fittingly enough, made by hand. The lot notes describe the set as being in “Very Good Condition, Original Condition Unaltered, No Imperfections.” It’s more typical to encounter hand-form chairs being offered as singles or in pairs; a set of 12, especially when arranged in a circle, has a visual impact that is hard to deny. The set carries an estimate of $12,000-$14,000.
