NEW YORK – An 18K gold, diamond and sapphire double clip retro pin by Rene Boivin; an 18K white gold, diamond and enamel flower brooch by David Webb; and a diamond, sapphire and platinum engagement ring will likely earn top-lot status at Jasper52’s Exclusive Estate and Designer Jewelry auction, which will be conducted on Tuesday, July 25 starting at 8 pm Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The 339-lot sale boasts an impressive selection of Tiffany & Co. pieces, including a 1960s pair of 18K gold and diamond leaf-form earrings by Jean Schlumberger; a Paloma Picasso 18K gold and diamond five-band Melody ring; a 1980s 18K gold and diamond brooch in the form of a pineapple; a cat-face brooch fashioned from pink quartz, sapphire, tiger’s eye and yellow and white gold; a vintage pair of 18K gold, sapphire, turquoise and lapis lazuli bracelets; a braided 14K gold bracelet dating to the 1970s; and a brooch that takes the shape of a 14K gold five-point crown, with the center point topped by a diamond and the flanking points topped by rubies.
Other strong contributions from renowned designers and houses include a heart-shape pair of diamond, emerald and platinum earrings by Oscar Heyman; a visually striking Atelier Janca link bracelet with links created from 18K gold, coral and black onyx; a bewitching vintage brooch by Cartier in the form of an eye with a hammered gold eyebrow, 18K white gold lashes festooned with diamonds, a lower eyelid outlined in black enamel and the eye itself made from 18K gold, emerald and orange quartz.
The highlighted designs reflect elegant variations on shades of blue and white. First among them is a David Webb piece from the 1980s, an impressively lifelike flower brooch with long white enamel petals lined in 18K gold, and its pistil (or center) formed from 2.16 carats of round brilliant-cut diamonds. The David Webb piece is estimated at $19,000-$23,000.
Also of note is a spectacular diamond, sapphire and platinum engagement ring estimated at $17,000-$20,000. It centers one oval-shape 1.72-carat diamond of D color and SI2 clarity and surrounds it with 2.50 carats of natural calibrated French cut sapphires – 22 in all. A total of 30 old mine-cut diamonds of H color and VS1 clarity, weighing 1.30 carats, surround the sapphires in a second, outer halo.
Completing the highlights is a stunner from Rene Boivin: a pair of vintage double clip pins in a geometric retro style, featuring 18K gold, diamond and sapphire. The set comes with its original Rene Boivin box, is described as being “in great condition,” with “wear consistent with age and use,” and it carries an estimate of $55,000-$66,000.
