NEW YORK – On Thursday, April 14, starting at 7 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will conduct a sale titled Animation Cels, 1930s-1990s. It boasts 88 lots of animation cels, lithographs and original drawings featuring cartoon characters that brought delight to you, your children and perhaps even your grandchildren. Represented are works that reference Disney classics such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, Fantasia, The Adventures of Chip and Dale, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, The Jungle Book and Cinderella; and other cherished animated movies such as The Secret of Nimh, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and Cool World. Also on offer are cels from television productions such as The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Beavis and Butthead, Peanuts specials, Looney Tunes, Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, Aeon Flux, The Real Ghostbusters, Rugrats and The Pink Panther. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Before Mike Judge gave the world Idiocracy and the series King of the Hill, he entertained MTV audiences of the 1990s with his animated show Beavis and Butthead. On offer is a production cel from “Nosebleed,” an episode from season 7 that first aired in February 1997. It starts with Beavis (the blond one) and Butthead (the brown-haired one) getting into a fight that inflicts a nosebleed on the former. The rest of the story marches through increasingly desperate and ridiculous attempts to stop the nosebleed. The cel in the April 14 auction pictures Beavis walking through a cemetery at night, evidently in an attempt to scare his nasal passages into cauterizing themselves. Displayed on a reproduction background, it comes with a certificate of authenticity and is estimated at $350-$400.

Another strong entry comes in the form of a circa-1990s drawing of four Looney Tunes characters by the late Virgil Ross, who worked as an animator for Warner Brothers and also Hanna Barbera. Rendered on animation paper with graphite and colored pencils, Ross depicts Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny. The signed drawing is estimated at $450-$550.

Completing the highlights is a production cel setup from the 1967 Disney film The Jungle Book. It shows Baloo the bear and Bagheera the black panther in a scene that appears toward the end of the feature. The hand-painted two-cel setup is estimated at $2,500-$3,000.
