NEW YORK – Items of Americana consigned by members of the New Hampshire Antique Dealers Association comprise Jasper52‘s April 22 sale, which begins at 6 pm Eastern time on that date. Almost 400 lots feature in the sale, all of which come from dealers who belong to the respected organization. Americana expert Clifford Wallach curated the sale. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Featured pieces include a Nantucket basket with a handle that is 10 inches in diameter, estimated at $3,000-$4,500. Created circa 1880, the handsome woven item shows no evidence of breaks or repairs, which is, of course, highly desirable.

Also on offer is a needlework sampler sewn in Charleston, Massachusetts in 1813. It is the handiwork of Miss Eliza W. Gale, a 12-year-old pupil at M Tuft’s School. Young Eliza stitched the alphabet in full in both upper- and lower case above a verse that reads in part: “Happy the woman who can find / Constant amusement in her mind / Thrice happy she whose chief enjoyment / is placed in regular employment / in works of genius use or taste / nor lets one moment run to waste.” Rendered in silk on linen and measuring just under 22 inches long by 18 1/2 inches framed, it carries an estimate of $3,500-$4,500.

Native American decorative arts appear in the lineup as well. Bound to draw keen and fierce interest among bidders is a large Yavapai woven basketry bowl or tray dating to the 1930s. Native to what is now Arizona, the tribal community calls itself “Yavapai,” which translates to “people of the sun”. The piece, possibly woven from willow and reed, has survived well, with its bold design and its strongly contrasting colors intact and undiminished, and without any apparent losses, breaks, or stains. It measures almost 15 inches across by three inches high, and is estimated at $1,500-$1,800.
