NEW YORK – French sterling silver abounds in an Exquisite Decorative Arts online auction that Jasper52 will conduct on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Two magnificent Louis XVI-style tea/coffee sets are offered as well as several large sets of flatware. Bid absentee or live online through LiveAuctioneers.
The larger tea/coffee set (above) consists of eight pieces made Puiforcat, one of the world’s premier silversmiths. The 19th century set, which includes a sterling silver serving tray, has a reserve bid of $24,549.
Direct from a private mansion in Paris is a superb 290-piece (complete service for 24) sterling silver flatware set bearing the Minerva 1 French hallmark. Manufactured sometime after 1972, the set is in excellent condition and is stored in its custom-made chest. It has a reserve bid of $24,699.
The parade of Continental decorative art continues with a 2-foot-tall Italian marble bust of Diana, which dates to the 19th century. The finely carved work carries an $8,500 reserve.
Seven clocks are offered, led by a French figural clock from the 19th century that is topped by an Arab on horseback. The clock is embellished in bronze gilding and silverplate. It is expected to sell for more than $13,500.
A unique piece in the auction is a large raw amber stone cradled by a wooden base. The natural amber stone measures 3inches by 5 inches by 1.7 inches. It has a $2,400-$3,000 estimate.
