NEW YORK – On Wednesday, June 1, starting at 8 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will present a sale of Furniture, Home Decor and Collectibles. Consisting of almost 300 lots, it truly contains something for everyone. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Among the pieces on offer is a work by African artist David Mlambo, rendered in serpentine stone and titled Family of 3 Sculpture; a pair of circa-1960s steelcase swivel Pollack-style office chairs upholstered in blue fabric; an antique Chinese altar carved from wood; a Victorian W & T Avery of Birmingham wood-mounted weighing scale; and a circa-1970s Italian white metal table lamp with a shade patterned with yellow cubes.
Also of interest is a circa-1900s Royal Bonn La Layon hand-painted German mantel clock; an Eames wire chair with a DKR Eiffel Tower base, dating to the 1950s; a decorative brass deep-sea diving helmet; a 1940s Chinese storage trunk or chest hand-painted with Chinoiserie imagery; a pair of antique hand-carved rosewood corner chairs; an Italian chandelier festooned with gilded leaves and ceramic roses; and a bronze sculpture from the 1960s depicting the Hindu god Ganesh reclining on a lounge chair.
Equally notable are a Danish 1970s teak roll-top desk and storage cabinet; an Lladro Dance of Joy figurine; a Paul McCobb for Winchendon Planner Group low maple coffee table, dating to the 1950s; a 12-piece decanter and glasses set from the same era, hand-painted and hand-blown in the Czech Republic; a 1970s copper fire pit, with lid; a pair of Art Deco-style greyhounds, cast in bronze; a brass Victorian-style fireplace fan folding screen in peacock form, made in the 1980s; and an industrial 1950s metal wheeled storage cabinet with 27 drawers.
Leading the auction highlights are a pair of circa-1960s steelcase swivel Pollack-style office chairs, recently upholstered in blue ultra suede fabric. Described as being in “Good vintage condition,” the seller is willing to ship them with or without wheels, per the winning bidder’s preference. The chairs are together estimated at $1,100-$1,500, as are the other two highlights described below.
A second piece certain to turn heads is a 1940s Chinese storage trunk or chest hand-painted with imagery from the tradition of Chinoiserie – fanciful visions of the East as imagined by people who have never been there. The stout, square chest has a painted green background and it measures 23.5in high by 20.5in wide by 12in deep.
The final standout is a 1950s set of glassware with a red ground and prominent gilding, which was hand-blown and hand-painted in the Czech Republic. It consists of a decanter, five wine glasses and six aperitif glasses and is described as being in “Great vintage condition.”
