NEW YORK – Jasper52 will present its next Prints and Fine Art auction on Wednesday, October 4, featuring 240 lots by underrepresented artists and well-known ones alike. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Looking through the catalog virtually guarantees you will encounter the work of an artist you’ve never seen before, and will find intriguing. For instance, there are two lively paintings of Rolex watches by JD Shultz; three alluring images of fantastical scenes of the wild by Marc Zimmerman; depictions of Black subjects and sitters by Emmanuel Ojebola, Oluwafemi Afolabi, and Joshua Salami; more than two dozen pop culture- and street art-inspired pieces credited to Death NYC; and compelling, architecture-heavy artworks by Chris Fraikin that flirt with abstraction.
The sale’s three highlights include a 2022 oil on canvas by Nigerian artist Babatunde Adeogun, titled Beyond Beauty. It focuses on the face of a beautiful Black woman who gazes directly at the viewer, and it is estimated at $4,000-$5,000.
Also featured is a 1975 acrylic on canvas by Native American artist Fritz Scholder (1937-2005), titled Vampire #6 and estimated at $7,000-$8,000.
Completing the highlights is Muted Echoes, an acrylic on canvas painted in 2022 by Emmanuel Amiolemen, who, like Adeogun, is from Nigeria. Portraying a young woman with her hands on her hips and a resolute look on her face, Muted Echoes has an estimate of $3,000-$3,500.
