NEW YORK – On Sunday, July 31, starting at 8 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will hold a sale dubbed Rare and Coveted Hermes Collections – 294 lots, all featuring treasures from the venerated French firm. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Of course, the lineup contains a generous selection of handbags. These range from a Birkin 35 Porosus crocodile bag in a Bordeaux hue with 18K white gold hardware set with more than 10 carats of diamonds; a Birkin 25 matte vivid blue Zellige alligator bag with gold hardware; a Birkin 35 Porosus crocodile bag in a striking color called Rose Scheherazade, fitted with gold hardware; a Birkin 30 Porosus crocodile bag in jade green, with palladium hardware; and a Birkin 25 lizard bag in black, described as very rare and sporting gold hardware.
And that’s just the Birkins, and that’s only some of them. Also on offer is a Kelly 28 alligator bag with palladium hardware in a shade of rose that unites with the so-called “extreme matte” surface to create a rich, magnificent red; a Mini Kelly 20 Sellier Jaune Bourgeon bag in pale yellow-green chevre leather and palladium hardware; a second Mini Kelly 20 with similar leather and hardware in an alluring shade of butter yellow; a Hac 50 travel bag in lime Evercolor leather and palladium hardware; and a Constance 18 marble silk bag accented with rose extreme swift leather and palladium hardware.
Hermes might be best-known for its handbags, but it produces many other items as well, such as a wicker Park Picnic Basket set with plates and glasses; an 18K white gold Torsade diamond necklace; a chess set with pieces fashioned from sycamore and mahogany; blankets, sandals and belts; a men’s cashmere and black leather jacket; a dog bed, made from oak; scarves, keychains and duffel bags; and a limited-edition silver-plated disco ball with 442 facets.
First among the highlights is an almost criminally tempting Birkin 35 Porosus crocodile bag that sports a dark red color resembling that of Bordeaux. It is complimented with 18K white gold hardware featuring 10.23 carats of diamonds, still covered by the original protective plastic. The lot notes state it was “carried one time.” This Hermes Birkin comes with its lock and keys in its clochette, plus a sleeper and a rain protector, and it is estimated at $359,000-$431,000.
A standout among the Hermes jewelry offerings is a choker-style Torsade diamond necklace, 5.33 carats total, set in 18K white gold. Estimated at $48,000-$58,000, it is described as being in new or never-worn condition, and it comes with a Hermes box.
The third highlight is a Birkin 30 Porosus crocodile bag with palladium hardware and an exquisite jade green finish. It is in new, never-worn condition, and comes with its lock and keys in its clochette, sleepers, a rain protector and a Hermes box. Its estimate is $150,000-$180,000.
