BERLIN, Germany – On Thursday, December 8, Jeschke van Vliet offers its last Modern and Contemporary Art auction of 2022, which will contain more than 900 lots. Together with the newcomer at the head of the Modern and Contemporary Art department Gabriella Rochberg, Hans-Joachim Jeschke and his junior partner Balazs Jadi have put together an extensive and alluring lineup of American postwar art. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Likely top lots include Mel Ramos’ Six Girls. The set of six 12-color collotypes from 1979 are decidedly rare and currently unavailable on the international art market. They are available as high quality framed and excellent prints and collectively estimated at €35,000-€70,000.
From the field of American Pop Art comes the charming 1968 print Seascape (Foot) by Tom Wesselmann. The color serigraph is modestly estimated at €7,000-€10,000. Also on offer is the large colored pencil drawing The View by Larry Rivers, which carries an estimate of €7,000-€14,000.
Another prize not often seen at auction is a set of six drypoint etchings of Jim Dine self-portraits from 1971, which have a collective estimate of €2,500-€5,000.
The minimalist works in the December 8 sale lineup are eminently worthy of mention. They include the strong and burr-like print by Brice Marden from the series 12 Views for Caroline Tatyana, dating to between 1977 and 1979. The Marden aquatint etching has an estimate of €2,800-€5,600.
Fred Sandback etching on vellum, estimated at €2,000-€4,000
Just as tempting, if not more so, are two 1975 prints by Fred Sandback. The iconic, untitled minimalist etchings on vellum were printed in Germany and have been published in just 10 copies that were assigned Roman numerals. Both Sandback prints have individual estimates of €2,000-€4,000.
In addition to American art, Jeschke’s catalog includes two works by Lucio Fontana, geometric abstraction by the likes of Carlos Cruz Diez and more than two dozen pieces by Victor Vasarely. Contemporary art standouts include a signed and numbered 2021 lithograph by Mona Hatoum, which is estimated at €1,600-€3,200.
