CLINTONDALE, N.Y. – On Monday, August 8, starting at 7 pm Eastern time, Kensington Estate Auction will hold an 177-lot online sale that will feature fine and urban art, sculptures, antiquarian books, photography, antiquities, illustration art, ethnographic art, Judaica, modern silver, Native American rugs and baseball and sports memorabilia. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

Spanning millennia is a collection of internationally timeless Judaica, led by a pair of Near Eastern 19th-century Torah finials, which have a modest estimate of $1,000-$3,000. Also included are towering, intricate Havdalah spice containers; an 18th-century seder plate, a Torah breast plate bearing the Hebrew inscription “Keter Torah”; Chanukah menorahs; a circumcision shield; amulets with handwritten parchment and also Torah pointers, or yad.

Worthy of special mention is a circa-1790 retablo panel painting by the Truchas Master, Pedro Antonio Fresquis (American, 1749-1831), who worked in what is now the state of New Mexico. Titled La Virgen del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carme), the retablo carries an estimate of $1,000-$3,000.

Keen collectors will be interested in a published illustration painting by Richard Amsel, whose art has adorned movie posters, album covers and significant magazines. He is particularly known for his illustrations of Flash Gordon, The Dark Crystal and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Kensington Estate Auction is offering a cover art painting Amsel did of a younger Elvis Presley for the August 9, 1983 issue of TV Guide. Its estimate is $3,000-$5,000. Similar selections include an original cover art painting by Boris Chaliapin for the 1957 film Oedipus Rex and several illustrations by William Steig and Ann Telanes.

Other highlights from the August 8 auction lineup include Swid Powell designs, sculptures by Anthony Gennarelli, art by Jenny Holzer, drawings by Paul Cadmus, etchings by Al Hirschfeld, a painting by Gerson Leiber and graffiti art by LA II (aka Angel Ortiz).
