Oakridge Auction Gallery readies Asian art selection for Dec. 1-2 sale

ASHBURN, Va. – Oakridge Auction Gallery is pleased to announce its last auction of the year: a Winter Asian Art & Antiques sale scheduled for December 1-2. It will feature nearly 600 lots separated into two sessions: Session 1 – Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art will begin at 9 am Eastern time on December 1, and Session 2 – Appreciating Extravagance: Chinese Artwork from an Important Collection in Ohio, will begin at 9 am Eastern time on December 2. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The leading highlight of Session 1 is a magnificent Chinese bronze statue of Guanyin. It is a beautiful and clear example of Ming dynasty metalwork with elaborately rendered details in the face, crown and jewelry. The accompanying wooden stand is nearly as large as the statue itself, with carefully sculpted lotus petals reaching up towards Guanyin and her gesture of meditation. This piece is estimated at $9,000-$12,000.

Other lots in the December 1 session include an Imperial blue and white dragon bowl dating from the Daoguang period estimated at $8,000-$12,000; an 18th-century Chinese jade vase carved with mythical beasts, estimated at $5,000-$8,000; and an 18th-century Chinese gilt bronze statue of Green Tara, estimated at $4,000-$6,000.

Session 2, scheduled for December 2, is composed of works of art from an esteemed collector from Cleveland, Ohio. The highlight of this collection is a teadust brush washer with an olive green coloring. With all its quiet majesty and beauty, this piece is a prime example of the tea dust ceramics of the official kiln of the Daoguang period. This ceramic carries an estimate of $10,000-$12,000.

Other important lots include a celadon jade lotus vase estimated at $8,000-$10,000; a jade double vase estimated at $8,000-$10,000; and a pair of yellow-ground jardinieres with Shou character patterns estimated at $4,000-$6,000.
