MT. CRAWFORD, Va. – The Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates Spring Fine & Decorative Arts Auction contains everything from contemporary paperweights and Tiffany art glass to ethnographic art and fine jewelry. The auction will take place from April 22-April 24, and sessions on all three days commence at 9:30 am Eastern time. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The April 22 session features part one of the paperweight and studio glass collection of Carl Carter of Austin, Texas. It will feature 500 total lots, with 400 lots of individual paperweights and 100 lots of art and studio glass. Mr. Carter’s collection contains examples from respected and desired paperweight artists such as David Graeber, Paul Stankard, Gordon Smith, Ken Rosenfeld, and Debbie and Delmo Tarsitano, among others. The sale will also include large selections of Paul Ysart, Parabelle Glass, and vintage and contemporary St. Louis paperweights and related objects. Standouts include a Paul Stankard Botanical Assemblage paperweight, estimated at $6,000-$8,00, as well as two works from David Graeber’s Pedestal series, and a Melissa Ayotte Circulus series example with stand. St. Louis objects include a super magnum concentric millefiori basket, a large cut overlay vase with paperweight base, a triangular obelisk, a newel post, and a close-pack millefiori tazza.
The April 23 session showcases the miniature lamp collection of the late Rosemary Bennett, of North Port, Florida. It includes more than 300 miniature lamps of all types, including figurals depicting Santa Claus, Columbus, a bisque Indian Chief, an elf, and a skeleton. It also features open salts including Daum Nancy cameos, English cameos, Meissen, figural, silver, enamel, and plique-a-jour examples; additional art glass, including Tiffany Studios, Steuben, and other American art glass; and a selection of English and Continental ceramics, including figural examples. Highlights include a fine Tiffany Favrile Daffodil art glass paperweight vase; a Lalique Chevreuse art glass vase; a Royal Vienna palace floor urn; and a Viennese enameled pedestal open salt.
The April 24 session features a wide range of paintings, prints, and statuary; Asian material of all types, including Chinese and Japanese porcelain; a selection of silver; fine jewelry; furniture from Georgian to mid-century Modern; and antique Persian and Caucasian carpets. Highlights include a fine pair of French champleve and dore bronze moon flask vases, probably from the Barbedienne Foundry in Paris; a Hans Wegner for Ry Mobler mid-century modern teakwood buffet; a 220-piece Baltimore, Maryland repousse sterling silver service, retaining its original fitted case on stand; and a Tiffany-retailed 18K pocket watch with Swiss movement.
