NEW YORK – On Tuesday, June 20, starting at 3 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will present a sale of Exclusive Furniture & Decorative Arts. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
The 179-lot sale delivers a gratifyingly wide array of choices, most notably in the lighting category. These include a 19th-century dore bronze chandelier with a Louis XVI-style dome; a monumental bronze 39-light Baroque chandelier, made in France in the mid-20th century; a recently rewired Versailles chandelier with Swarovski crystal pendants; a Sevres-style 16-light palatial bronze chandelier, also newly rewired; and a pair of 1910 Neoclassical Maison Bagues mirrored sconces or girandoles.
Another section that is impressively strong is the one consisting of mirrors. Among them are a Mid-century Modern style Venetian keyhole-shape mirror; a rectangular 1940s Art Deco-style example with a shadowbox frame; a 1960s French Neoclassical giltwood wall or console mirror; a 1980s pair of Art Deco-style wall or console mirrors with handsome turquoise beveled frames; a monumental French 19th-century Rococo floor mirror; and an oval-shape Italian Mid-century Modern Fontana Arte plateau or tray mirror.
Sale highlights are led by a pair of circa-1960 X-leg Committee chairs, Model PJ-SI-50-A, attributed to Pierre Jeanneret. They have been newly upholstered in black cowhide and come from from Chandigarh, India. Both sport a strong patina and a measure of wear to the legs. They are together estimated at $39,000-$47,000.
Another standout is a French Louis XVI mahogany commode or chest with bronze accents that dates to 1780. It measures 35 by 49.5 by 23in and has an estimate of $10,000-$12,000.
Completing the highlights is a palatial pair of mid-20th-century dore bronze and crystal-beaded ball chandeliers with swag, scroll and floral designs. According to the lot notes, each of the two take five bulbs and have been totally rewired, and they are described as being in good condition, showing wear consistent with age and use. The pair has an estimate of $21,000-$25,000.
