GRIFFITH, Ind. – Rivich Auction presents “Tomorrow Never Knows: Post-War Art & Design,” an auction for avid collectors and tastemakers alike. Over 160 lots of fine art, furniture, lighting, rugs and decorative art are offered from a Chicago executive’s estate. The auction will conclude Sunday, Oct. 18. Works from multidisciplinary artist Jacques Charlier (Belgian, b.1939) feature prominently in this auction. The career-spanning works of Charlier up for bid include early Abstract Expressionist paintings, Pop Art works and his later mixed media pieces.
Charlier’s work is held in modern art museums throughout the world including the Museum of Modern Art, where he has 13 pieces online. The owner of the estate, a friend of Charlier, acquired the artwork directly from the artist. These pieces have remained in his personal collection and have not been available for sale until now.
Also included in this auction is work by the Zhou Brothers (Chinese, 20th century). The Zhou Brothers are an important contemporary artist duo who prominently in contemporary art. Their award-winning artwork is included in public and private collections internationally.
Featured in this auction is the editioned cast bronze sculpture titled The Ring of Life. This sculpture was presented to, and is part of the collection of the president of China.
Among the original works and multiples included in this auction are Jeff Koons’ Balloon Dog sculptures, Alexander Calder lithographs, Dennis Pearson Beasties, Henri Joseph Pauwels’ still life paintings and Masahito Katayama abstract paintings.
This auction will also feature a fantastic selection of mid-century European and American design – furniture, lighting and decorative items. These include teak and rosewood dining suites, seating and cabinets. Additionally, there will be mirrors, vintage typewriters, Val Saint Lambert cut crystal, Limoges hand-painted porcelain, a George Nelson fireplace tool set, and Persian and Oriental rugs.
This auction was carefully curated to showcase a lifetime of collecting by the owner. Many of the artworks were acquired directly from the artists.
