NEW YORK – On Saturday, November 25, starting at 6 pm Eastern time, Jasper52 will conduct a sale titled Dali Masterpieces: Surreal Enigma. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Leading the highlights and the sale overall is the original Dali lithograph on Arches paper titled Arise, Barak, and lead, which has an estimate of $1,100-$1,500. The pencil-signed artist’s proof was printed in 1973 in France.
However, the overwhelming majority of the 95 lots in the sale are woodcuts from Dali’s epic mid-century project based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, which ultimately yielded a suite of prints in 1964.
Dali tackled all three volumes of Dante – Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, aka heaven – and two of those realms are reflected in the remaining highlights, which are both estimated at $450-$550: The Thieves – Hell 24 and also Virgils Reproaches – Purgatory 5.
