Unique tribal art leads latest Jasper52 auction

NEW YORK — Jasper52 will present unique tribal art from around the world at its upcoming auction event, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, March 24. Bid absentee or live online via LiveAuctioneers.com. For decades, collectors have flocked to tribal art from around the world. Its broad appeal is reflected in the strong values achieved in auctions and galleries worldwide.

Quite often, tribal art is used as a decorative element, both in homes and offices. Its raw, genuine nature captures the spirit of its creators in a timeless manner.

One of the March 24 sale’s leading lots is a rare and powerful Nyanga mask, from Lega, Democratic Republic of Congo. Described as an “old mask, whose the simplicity of form is only matched by its beauty and power,” this fascinating item carries a pre-sale estimate of $3,000-$3,500.

Next up is a cariatid figural stool (seat) from the Luba people of eastern Congo. They are known for Kanyok sculpture, generous forms, and quality of workmanship. Their cariatid seats are among the most valued objects in African art. This item is expected to sell for $2,500-$3,000.

Another highlight is this superb Dan mask from Ivory Coast. The Dan (or Yacouba, as they call themselves) are a people primarily from Ivory Coast, although some inhabit Liberia. A classic example of African art, this beautiful mask has an original asymmetry, especially visible at the chin. It is estimated to sell for $3,000-$3,500.
