NEW YORK – On September 30, Bonhams will present Wrap It Up, a Prints & Multiples sale in celebration of the legacy of famed artist duo Christo (1935-2020) & Jeanne-Claude (1935-2009). The 102-lot sale is comprised of mixed media and prints of detailed shots of the large-scale projects the couple collaborated on throughout their lives. The auction is a comprehensive review of all the projects that Christo ever did, with works represented from nearly every period of his life – starting with an early rare drawing from 1959 when he had just escaped Bulgaria, up through today. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.
Among the many highlights are a sculpture Wrapped Bouquet of Roses from 1993, which is estimated at $8,000-$12,000 as well as a print of his current project, L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, which is scheduled to be on view in Paris from September 18 through October 3. The print is estimated at $1,800-$2,200.
Bonhams Director of Prints and Multiples Deborah Ripley commented, “Known for their larger-than-life public installations, Christo and Jeanne-Claude were givers in the truest sense of the word who dedicated their lives to democratizing art. This fall, as their highly anticipated wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe posthumously comes to fruition after years of planning, we are delighted to simultaneously bring a bit of their magic to market, available to collectors across the globe in this highly curated and well-priced sale.”
