1902 $100 banknote, $24,000, Case Antiques
A rare 1902 $100 banknote from the First National Bank of Nashville, depicting the American financier John J. Knox, graded 12/Fine, sold for $24,000 at an auction held Oct. 21 by Case Antiques Auction in Knoxville, Tenn. Also, an 1882 note from the First National Bank of Salinas (Calif.), graded 20/Very Fine, fetched $7,424; and a U.S. $2 silver certificate (Educational), with portraits of Samuel Morse and Robert Fulton, 64/Choice Uncirculated, went for $5,040. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

‘Amazing Fantasy #15,’ $13,750, Bruneau & Co.
A copy of Marvel Comics’ Amazing Fantasy #15 from August 1962, the first appearance of Spider-Man, signed by Stan Lee, sold for $13,750 at a Fall Toy, Comic & Comic Art Auction held Oct. 28 by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers in Cranston, R.I. Also, a circa-1967 Hasbro Action Marine 7727 Rifle-Rack equipment set, factory sealed, with G.I. Joe helmet form and sticker, brought $2,812; and a copy of Marvel Comics’ X-Men #1 (Sept. 1963), signed by Stan Lee, hit $3,062. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

17th-century Chinese figure, $60,000, A.B. Levy’s
A 17th-century Chinese polychrome-decorated, carved wood figure of a seated bodhisattva sold for $60,000 at an auction held Oct. 30 by A.B. Levy’s in Palm Beach, Fla. Also, an oil on canvas painting by Charles J.F. Soulacroix (French, 1825-1879) titled Enchantee also brought $60,000; an oil painting by Nicola Simbari (Italian, 1927-2012) titled Near Amalfi (1965) made $5,700; and a Hermes red alligator handbag rose to $21,600. Prices include a 20 percent buyer’s premium.

Richard H. Lever oil painting, $162,500, Shannon’s
An oil on canvas painting by the Australian-American artist Richard H. Lever (1876-1957), titled The Old Lighthouse and Fleets of St. Ives sold for $162,500 at Shannon’s Fine Art Auctioneers’ annual fall art auction held Oct. 26 in Milford, Conn. Also, Winter Corner by Henry M. Gasser (American, 1909-1981) made $32,500; Through the Clouds by Dale Nichols (American, 1904-1995) brought $100,000; and The Yankee Peddler by William T. Carlton (American, 1816-1888) rose to $75,000. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Indian Queen bitters bottle, $14,375, American Bottle Auctions
A rare and beautiful Brown’s Celebrated Indian Queen figural bitters bottle patented in 1868 sold for $14,375 in Auction #64, an Internet and catalog auction held Oct. 13-22 by American Bottle Auctions of Sacramento, Calif. Also, a Lafayette DeWitt Clinton half-pint lime green flask brought $10,925; an Italian Soda Manufactory (S.F. Glassworks, Philadelphia) bottle went for $6,325; and a Dr. Wynkoop’s Sarsaparilla bottle, 1850s, one of about 20 known, rose to $7,150. Prices are inclusive of the buyer’s premium.

1981 Rolls-Royce Corniche, $39,600, Milestone Auctions
A 1981 Rolls-Royce Corniche convertible with a classic blue over silver exterior and a black interior, and just 15,707 actual miles, sold for $39,600 at a sale of fine cars and other items from the Charlie Schalebaum collection, held Oct. 14 by Milestone Auctions in Willoughby, Ohio. Also, a 1961 Chris Craft Continental wood boat with fins, 21 feet long, one of 96 made, sped away for $34,800; and a 1972 Volkswagen delivery van, all original, with 25,000 miles, moved on for $20,400. Prices include an 18 percent buyer’s premium.

Paul Newman’s Rolex wristwatch, $17.75 million, Phillips/Bacs & Russo
The late actor Paul Newman’s Rolex, the “Paul Newman” Daytona, sold for $17.752 million at an auction held Oct. 26 by Philips, in association with watch auction house Bacs & Russo, in New York City. It was a new world record price paid for a wristwatch at auction. Also, a Patek Philippe ref. 1518 pink gold perpetual calendar watch with moon phase indication earned $975,000; and a Philippe Dufour Diality early platinum wristwatch with double regulator rose to $915,000. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Articulated artist mannequin, $45,000, Rago Arts & Auction
A life-size reticulated artist mannequin sold for $45,000 at Great Estates and Curiouser and Curiouser auctions held Oct. 21-22 by Rago Arts & Auction Center in Lambertville, N.J. Also, a 1792 letter signed by Alexander Hamilton commanded $37,500; a gem cameo vase by Thomas Webb & Sons breezed to $26,250; the same amount was realized for a Louis XVI-style brass and brushed steel bureau-plat. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

1892-S U.S. Morgan dollar, $470,000, Legend Rare Coin Auction
An 1892-S U.S. Morgan dollar coin, graded PCGS MS67, sold for $470,000 at Legend Rare Coin Auction’s 23rd Regency Auction, the official auction of the Philadelphia PCGS Members Only Show, held Oct. 26. Also, an 1893-O U.S. $1 Morgan dollar coin, PCGS MS66, hit $411,250; a 1914-S U.S. $10 gold coin, PCGS MS66, realized $164,500; a 1909-S U.S. $10 gold coin, PCGS MS66+, gaveled for $146,875; and a 1907 wire rim U.S. $10 gold coin, PCGS MS66, hit $135,125. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Art Deco ring, $200,000, Doyle New York
An exquisite Art Deco ring, set with a cushion-shaped modified brilliant diamond of 6.41 carats, F color VS2 clarity, sold for $200,000 at an Important Jewelry Auction held Oct. 18 by Doyle New York in New York City. Also, a ring centering a cut-cornered step emerald-cut diamond of about 8.95 carats, H color VS2 clarity, sold for $137,500; and a diamond bow brooch supporting a pendant with a pear-shaped, 21.52-carat emerald topped out at $165,000. Prices are inclusive of the buyer’s premium.

Sam Gilliam painting, $370,000, Freeman’s
A draped canvas painting by Sam Gilliam (American, b. 1933) titled Idylls I sold for $370,000 at a Modern & Contemporary Art Auction held Nov. 7 by Freeman’s in Philadelphia. Also, an acrylic, graphite and black pencil on three sheets of joined paper by Robert Mangold (American, b. 1937), titled Curved Plane/Figure VII, Study A, rose to $100,000; and an oil and acrylic on paper by Adolph Gottlieb (American, 1903-1974), titled Brown on Black, went for $93,750. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

1952 Mickey Mantle card, $125,205, Goldin Auctions
A 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle baseball card, graded SGC 86 NM+ 7.5, sold for $125,205 at a Legends Auction held Nov. 11 by Goldin Auctions in Runnemede, N.J. Also, a 1909-11 T206 White Border Eddie Plank card, PSA EX5, realized $119,068; a 1959 Mickey Mantle game-used, signed and photo-matched New York Yankees home jersey was a hit for $92,062; and a 1997-1998 Michael Jordan game-used, signed Chicago Bulls home jersey rose to $73,650. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

19th-century cigar store Indian, $11,115, Copake Auction
A 19th-century polychrome painted wooden cigar store Indian figure attributed to Thomas Brooks (New York, 1828-1895) sold for $11,115 at an estate auction held Oct. 21 by Copake Auction in Copake, N.Y. Also, a painted fireboard titled The Great Fires of Utica, New York changed hands for $3,510; the same figure was realized for a weather vane in the shape of a setter dog; and an 18th-century cherry Pennsylvania Chippendale lowboy with fan carved center drawer hit $4,680. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Pair of portrait miniatures, $64,350, Jeffrey S. Evans
A pair of American School folk art portrait miniatures (one shown) sold for $64,350 at an Americana & Fine Antiques Auction held Nov. 10-11 by Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates in Mount Crawford, Va. Also, a Native American stone point/blade finished at $12,870; an American Andrew Jackson sulphide and blown glass tumbler fetched $11,700; Didier Robert de Vaugondy’s Atlas Universal went for $11,115; and a Baltimore Federal inlaid mahogany huntboard/sideboard table topped out at $10,530. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Elmer Crowell calling teal, $138,000, Guyette & Deeter
A one-of-a-kind calling greenwing teal decoy by the renowned carver Elmer Crowell sold for $138,000 at the annual Fall Decoy & Sporting Art Auction held Nov. 9 by Guyette & Deeter Inc. Also, a Canada goose decoy by the Ward Brothers soared to $80,500; a greenwing teal hen by Adam Ansardi (Davant, La.) flew away for $33,500; and a pair of “smoothie”-style black ducks by Pat Godin hit $7,475. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

American West album, $32,400, Cowan’s
An American West album containing photos of Mormon elders, American Indians, Salt Lake City and more sold for $32,400 at an American History Auction held Nov. 17 by Cowan’s Auctions in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also, the Mary Andrews suffrage collection, featuring a letter signed by Carrie Chapmen Catt, a parade jacket, blouse and “Justice” and “Morality” sashes, hit $26,400; and a French & Indian War manuscript orderly book recorded by Capt. Nathaniel Perry made $19,200. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Barry McGee installation, $193,000, Clars Auction
A major installation work by Barry McGee (American, b. 1966), titled La Migra (1995), done in collaboration with Sandow Birk (American, b. 1962), sold for $193,000 at an auction held Nov. 18-19 by Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, Calif. Also, a charcoal study by Norman Rockwell (American, 1894-1978) of Victor Mature as Samson from the 1949 movie Samson and Delilah went for $139,000; and a 1917 oil on canvas painting by French artist Jean Metzinger (1883-1956) rose to $36,300. Prices include the buyer’s premium.

Bob Dylan’s Martin guitar, $396,500, Heritage Auctions
Bob Dylan’s owned and stage-played 1963 Martin D-28 acoustic guitar – played for over a decade and through the entire set at George Harrison’s 1971 Concert for Bangladesh – sold for $396,500 at an Entertainment and Music Memorabilia Auction held Nov. 11 by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The seller was Larry Cragg, Dylan’s guitar technician, who bought the guitar from Dylan in 1977 for $500. The guitar came with that purchase receipt, plus the original case. The price includes the buyer’s premium.

Edward Hopper print, $317,000, Swann Auction
A print of a rare etching by American master Edward Hopper, titled The Lonely House (1923), sold for $317,000 at an Old Masters Through Modern Prints Auction held Nov. 2 by Swann Auction Galleries in New York City. It was a new auction record for a Hopper print. Also, an etching by Rembrandt Van Rijn, titled Self-Portrait with Cap Pulled Forward (circa 1631) brought $65,000; and an enigmatic lithograph by Odilon Redon titled Arbre (1892) rose to $47,500. Prices include the buyer’s premium.
