Boca Raton Museum of Art spotlights three artists in concurrent shows

BOCA RATON, Fla. – “Spirit lives in everything” – This iconic quote by the late artist Sari Dienes serves as the entryway to the standout new exhibition by the Boca Raton Museum of Art of three breakthrough artists: Sari Dienes (1898-1992), Matthew Schreiber (b. 1967-), and Sri Prabha (b. 1969-). The work of each artist is showcased within its own gallery in this winning trifecta that encompasses the museum’s first floor. All three spaces are on view from June 14 through October 22 and are curated by Associate Curator of the Museum Kelli Bodle.

Louise Nevelson architectural sculpture restored at Boca Raton museum

‘Shadow Chord,’ a 1969 work by Louise Nevelson that now belongs to the Boca Raton Museum of Art, has undergone a restoration funded by the Bank of America Art Conservation Project. BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boca Raton Museum of Art has announced the completion of the restoration of a major sculpture by Louise Nevelson, a leading American sculptor of the 20th century and an innovator in site-specific art installations. The restoration was funded by a grant from Bank of America’s Art Conservation Project, a global program providing grants to nonprofit cultural institutions to conserve historically or culturally significant works of art, including works that have been designated as national treasures.

Sprawling Whitfield Lovell show opens Feb. 15 at Boca Raton museum

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boca Raton Museum of Art hosts Whitfield Lovell: Passages, opening on February 15 and continuing through May 21. This is the largest exhibition ever presented of Lovell’s work that focuses on lost African American history, and raises universal questions about America’s collective heritage.

Hollywood backdrops come to the forefront in Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The first museum show dedicated to Hollywood’s painted backdrops, the grandest illusions ever created for the movies, makes its world premiere in South Florida at the Boca Raton Museum of Art. Titled Art of the Hollywood Backdrop: Cinema’s Creative Legacy, it opens on April 20 and continues through January 22, 2023.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boca Raton Museum of Art, one of South Florida’s leading cultural institutions, has announced record-breaking attendance numbers for 2021, surpassing those of all previous seasons. In addition, last year the museum welcomed more new annual membership packages than ever before, representing thousands of households and a 200% increase over the prior year.

Hubert Phipps’ monumental ‘Rocket’ sculpture chosen for public art initiative

BOCA RATON, Fla. –  The monumental new Hubert Phipps sculpture titled Rocket has been selected for an Art in Public Places initiative in South Florida, at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (BRiC), the historic tech landmark where the first IBM Personal Computer was invented. This new public art program is part of a cultural partnership between the Boca Raton Museum of Art and CP Group, the owner of BRiC and a premier developer and operator of commercial real estate.

Advance tickets available for Boca Raton Museum’s Machu Picchu exhibition

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Boca Raton Museum of Art will host Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru, an exhibit that combines a display of 192 ancient Peruvian artifacts with a spectacular virtual-reality expedition of the famed UNESCO World Heritage Site via drone footage and virtual reality (VR) technology. Advance tickets are now available to purchase for the show, which opens on October 16 and continues for what’s described as a limited run ahead of a planned worldwide tour.

Boca Raton museum hosts groundbreaking Florida outsider art exhibition

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The passion for outsider art runs deep in Florida, where self-taught artists have forged an indelible mark of special attention on the creative landscape of the state. Against the odds, many of these artists created obsessively to escape from their worlds that were often full of deep conflict and personal struggles. The exhibition titled “An Irresistible Urge to Create: The Monroe Family Collection of Florida Outsider Art,” on view at the Boca Raton Museum of Art until September 5, marks the first time a museum has presented this definitive group of artists in an exhibition of this size and scope.
