LAMBERVILLE, N.J. – More than 100 enthusiasts and collectors of the work of George Nakashima gathered at Rago Arts and Auction Center on Oct. 7 for a preview of the documentary George Nakashima, Woodworker.

The documentary, in its final stages of production, is the work of John Nakashima, an award-winning documentarian and George Nakashima’s nephew.

Original footage and interviews filmed over 17 years feature George, his family and the extended family of Nakashima craftspeople in India, Japan and the United States.

The evening was co-hosted by Mira Nakashima, Robert Aibel of Moderne Gallery in Philadelphia (the leading dealer for Nakashima furniture) and David Rago.

“The only way to thank Mira, Bob and David for this evening is to continue to finish putting together the story of this fascinating, one-of-a kind man,” said filmmaker John Nakashima, “I think that, in the end, arranging this hugely ambitious, labor intensive and lavish evening, will translate into people – especially young people – being inspired, helping increase understanding the many facets of George’s of craft, art and philosophies, and move people to see more beauty in our troubled world.”
