NEW ORLEANS — Art In Bloom 2010, an annual springtime celebration featuring floral arrangements, educational programs and social events, is set for March 24-28 at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Taking as its theme A Green Orleans, this year’s 22nd annual event will highlight eco-friendly practices for businesses, homes and lifestyles.
The Art In Bloom Patron Party, one of the spring’s premier social events in New Orleans, and the Preview Party, will be held Wednesday, March 24. The popular Art In Bloom lecture series and the annual Art In Bloom luncheon are scheduled for the following day, Thursday, March 25.

Remco Van Vliet, lecture and demonstration, 10:45 a.m. – Van Vliet & Trap is an event design company founded in 1997 by Van Vliet and his brother Cas Trap. Born in Holland and raised in the flower industry, Van Vliet is a third-generation floral designers trained as a master florist.
Luncheon at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters features fashions and jewelry by Saks Fifth Avenue, 12:30 p.m. – Saks Fifth Avenue presents the best of spring 2010 fashions for men and women including the latest jewelry collection of IPPOLITA.
Art In Bloom kicks off with the Patron and Preview Party on Wednesday from 7 to 10 p.m. Opening night festivities include music by ck3 and a Saks Fifth Avenue presentation of the latest jewelry collection of IPPOLITA. More than 1,200 guests are expected to attend this early viewing of the floral fantasies and talent that make Art In Bloom a springtime must-see in New Orleans.
The silent auction, with approximately 60 items up for bid, features an original painting by Nicole Charbonnet titled After Durer (For Eugenie). Cuisine and libations will be provided by dozens of area businesses.
Art In Bloom will remain on view at the New Orleans Museum of Art through Sunday.

The Art In Bloom is a joint project of the Museum and the Garden Study Club of New Orleans. Chaired by Karen Gundlach and Elly Lane, this five-day fête showcases more than 100 exhibitors of creative floral designs, sculptures and scenes, and benefits educational projects and exhibitions at NOMA and projects of the Garden Study Club. Beneficiaries include the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, the New Orleans Botanical Gardens at City Park, the Restoration of the Gardens of Project Lazarus, Beauregard-Keyes House, Parkway Partners, Longue Vue House and Gardens and the Hermann-Grima Gallier Houses.
The New Orleans Museum of Art, founded in 1910 by Isaac Delgado, houses more than 30,000 art objects encompassing 4,000 years of world art. Works from the permanent collection, along with continuously changing temporary exhibitions, are on view in the museum’s 46 galleries Wednesdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Thursdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission to the adjacent Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, featuring work by 58 artists, including several of the 20th century’s great master sculptors, is always free during public hours. The Sculpture Garden will reopen on March 20 after an extensive renovation.
