CRAWFORD, Va. – Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates will host the eighth annual Virginia Decorative Arts Seminar on June 16. The title is “Shenandoah Valley Pottery – New Discoveries and Demonstrations.”

Participants will join Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates for a dynamic one-day seminar spotlighting new research on Shenandoah Valley of Virginia pottery and conversations with contemporary potters/scholars who will demonstrate making earthenware and stoneware and talk about the historic production of these wares.

The seminar will be held at the Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates gallery at 2177 Green Valley Lane in Mt. Crawford, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The speakers will be Kurt Russ on Staunton, Virginia, Stoneware; Brenda Hornsby Heindl on Abraham Spencer and Free Potters of Color in the Valley; and Jeffrey Evans on New Research from New Market to Timberville. Greg Shooner and Brenda Hornsby Heindl will discuss and demonstrate pottery making.

An informal tailgate sale will take place in the parking lot the morning of the seminar from 8 until 9 o’clock. am. Sellers should bring their own tables.

The deadline for seminar registration is June 6. The cost is $95 which includes lunch.

Also, on Friday, June 22, ceramics scholar and archaeologist Robert Hunter will present a tribute to Ivor Noel Hume at 12:30 p.m. preceding the 1 p.m. sale of Hume’s personal research library. The presentation is free to the public.

The auction features the extensive library of the late Ivor Noel Hume (1927-2017), distinguished scholar, author and former director of the Department of Archaeological Research at Colonial Williamsburg. With volumes ranging from the 17th to 21st centuries, this represents one of the finest archaeological research libraries in private hands.
