Auction 18 - International Posters

On November 6, PosterConnection will hold its 18th bi-annual International Poster Auction. The sale is divided into 5 main categories, offering 487 poster lots (some 550 posters).
The Propaganda & Military section includes 97 works from World War I (Flagg’s “I want you”) through the Vietnam War (“Q: And Babies?”), including many US, German, Russian and European political posters. The Advertising section is divided into clothing, food & drinks, tobacco and general consumer goods. The Art, Design & Culture selection is as diverse as it can be. Following a section on small size art nouveau posters and Maitres de l’Affiches (incl. 2 Sarah Bernhard works by Alphonse Mucha) is a selection of modern graphic design posters from around the globe (including design by Peter Behrens, A.M. Cassandre, Armin Hofmann and Erik Nitsche).
A superb selection of Movie Posters and old Film Programs includes the original German sheet for “Pandora’s Box,” Charlie Chaplin’s “The Kid” as well as programs for Metropolis, King Kong, The Mummy and Frankenstein. The Travel selection completes the sale with quality sports, automobile and maritime posters. Among them are Emil Cardinaux’s “St. Moritz” golf poster, a rare New York zeppelin poster by Jupp Wiertz, a stunning Australian Railway poster by Northfield, several rare Olympic posters from 1936 through 1976, and a selectio of early Hamburg-America Line steamship posters.
